The Western Digital WD Black AN1500 1TB is a solid state drive on a PCIe add-in card. You fit it in an expansion slot like a graphics card, with no extra cables. It has a metal heatsink and RGB lighting, and it is built for gaming PCs and workstations.
Tech sites report that the card holds two WD SN730 NVMe drives. A Marvell 88NR2241 chip joins them as RAID 0. WD sets this mode at the factory, and you cannot change it. The flash is BiCS4 96-layer TLC. Your system sees one 1TB drive, and the card can serve as a boot drive.
RAID 0 splits data across both drives, which adds speed. It does not add safety. If one of the two drives fails, the data on the card is lost. Keep backups of anything you cannot replace.
The card uses PCIe 3.0 with eight lanes. That gives it room for 6,500 MB/s reads and 4,100 MB/s writes, WD's top ratings. A slot with fewer lanes, or a slower link, lowers the speed. The card fits x8 and x16 slots.
An aluminum heatsink covers the card, and the card has no fan. It has 16 RGB LEDs. You control them with the WD Black SSD Dashboard on Windows. WD lists 13 lighting effects, and the card also syncs with the lighting tools from ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI. WD lists an operating range of 5 to 35 degrees C. Power saving is turned off to keep the speed up.
