0F38652 and WUH722020BL5204 are two numbers for one drive: the WD Ultrastar DC HC560, a 20TB SAS hard drive for data center arrays. 0F38652 is WD's part number. WUH722020BL5204 is the model number.
The HC560 was WD's first drive with OptiNAND. A small flash drive sits beside the disks and holds the drive's metadata. That frees space on the platters, so tracks can sit closer together. WD says OptiNAND is not a hybrid design.
Nine helium-sealed disks hold 2.2TB each. Energy-assisted recording and a triple-stage actuator help reach 20TB at low power. The recording is CMR.
The model number packs in the details. WUH is Western Digital, Ultrastar, helium. The 72 is 7200 RPM, and 20 is the capacity. B is the generation code, and L is the 26.1 mm height. The 52 means 512e SAS at 12Gb/s. The final 4 means Base SE.
The self-encrypting SAS version is WUH722020BL5201, part 0F38651. SATA versions use 0F38755 and 0F38785 for Base SE, and 0F38754 and 0F38784 for self-encrypting.
Older listings often say HGST Ultrastar. WD now sells the line under its own name.
WD lists 6.1 W at idle and 9.3 W under a mixed random load. Twelve drives idle near 73 W. Noise is 2.0 bels at idle and 3.2 while working. Keep air moving across the 5 to 60°C range.
A full pass over 20TB at the rated 291 MB/s takes about 19 hours, and a busy array takes longer. Twelve bays hold 240TB raw, and RAID 6 leaves about 200TB usable.
