Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between ST18000NM000J (SATA) and ST18000NM004J (SAS)?

The ST18000NM000J uses SATA 6Gb/s (single-port), while the ST18000NM004J uses SAS 12Gb/s (dual-port). SAS offers higher reliability and multipath I/O for enterprise storage arrays. Choose SATA for cost-effective bulk storage and SAS for high-availability enterprise arrays.

Does this drive use SMR or CMR?

The Exos X18 uses CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording), ensuring consistent write performance for enterprise workloads.

Is TLER supported?

Yes, the Exos X18 supports TLER (Time-Limited Error Recovery), making it suitable for RAID configurations where extended error recovery can cause drive dropouts.

The Seagate Exos X18 ST18000NM000J delivers 18TB of enterprise SATA storage with 270 MB/s sustained throughput, CMR recording, and 2.5 million hour MTBF — a proven high-capacity SATA hard drive for hyperscale data centers and enterprise bulk storage deployments.
