The Samsung M396B4G73BH0-YF8M1 is a 32GB DDR3 memory module for IBM Power 770 and 780 servers. Sellers list it as IBM part 41T8258. It is a custom 276-pin DIMM, called a CDIMM, and it runs at 1066 MT/s.
| Feature | Standard server DIMM | This IBM CDIMM |
|---|---|---|
| Pins | 240 for DDR3 | 276 |
| Buffering | Register chip on the module | A memory buffer for each DIMM |
| Fits | Dell, HP, Lenovo, and other x86 servers | IBM Power servers |
A standard DDR3 module can't seat in a Power 770 slot, and this module can't seat in an x86 board. Check the label and your system's feature list before you plan a swap.
Sellers list this Samsung module under IBM part 41T8258 and tie it to memory feature 5602 on the Power 770. IBM sold feature 5602 as four 32GB DIMMs at 1066 MHz, which is 128GB. The Power 770 and 780 have 16 DIMM slots on each processor card, so sixteen of these modules make 512GB.
Samsung's speed code YF8 means DDR3-1066 at CL7, with a 1.35V rating. The B in BH0 marks B-die, Samsung's third-generation DRAM die, in a standard package. The DB0 build uses D-die in a flip-chip package instead. Size and speed are the same.
No. It is built for IBM Power systems only.
No. Sellers list POWER8 CDIMMs at 1600MHz under other numbers, such as IBM 00LP736. This module runs at 1066MHz.
No. IBM's documents and Samsung's code both say 1066MHz.
No. The part numbers differ, and so do the DRAM die and package. They do the same job in the same IBM servers.
Capacity Upgrade on Demand. IBM sells the memory as capacity you switch on with activations, so check your server's activations first.
