The Mitel 6905 SIP Phone (50009432) is a basic desk phone for common areas, kiosks and warehouses. This is the open SIP version, so it works with many hosted services. It keeps things simple.

What it has

• A 2.75-inch monochrome screen, 128 x 48 pixels, with large type.
• Three programmable personal keys for speed dials and features.
• An HD handset and a full-duplex HD speakerphone.
• Two 10/100 Ethernet ports, so a computer can share the wall jack.
• PoE (Class 1) power, or an optional power supply.

What it leaves out

• Gigabit ports. The ports run at 10/100.
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
• Expansion modules.
• A color screen. Mitel also lists the screen as having no backlight.

Keys

Besides the three personal keys, the phone has three context soft keys and a four-way pad with a Select or OK key. Twelve fixed keys cover line, hold, redial, goodbye, options and volume. The mute and speaker keys have lights. A message light shows waiting voicemail.

Sound

Mitel Hi-Q audio gives wideband sound on both the handset and the speaker. The handset works with hearing aids. The phone supports G.711, G.722, G.722.1 and G.729.

Power and mounting

PoE powers the phone. The power supply is sold separately. A desk stand comes with the phone, and a wall mount is optional. The handset port is RJ9, and the phone supports an electronic hook switch.

Who it is for

Mitel built the 6905 for users who want basic call features in a compact phone. Mitel lists caller ID, 3-way calling and up to 8 lines. A large-character font makes the screen easy to read from a distance. Mitel also lists energy-saving power adapters for the phone.
