The Micron 9400 MAX 25.6TB is a high-capacity NVMe solid state drive for servers and storage systems. It uses a PCIe 4.0 x4 link and the U.3 connector, in a 2.5-inch, 15 mm case. The MAX line is Micron's mixed workload family, rated at 3 drive writes per day.
One drive holds as much as eight 3.2TB drives. That frees drive bays and PCIe lanes, and it cuts the number of parts that can fail. At 3 drive writes per day, the drive can take about 76.8TB of new data each day.
Reads and writes both reach up to 7,000 MB/s. For small random work, the drive reaches up to 1.6 million reads and 600,000 writes per second. Latency is about 69 microseconds for reads and 10 microseconds for writes.
A PCIe 4.0 x4 link carries about twice the data of a PCIe 3.0 x4 link. That is what lets one drive reach the 7,000 MB/s rating. In a PCIe 3.0 slot, the drive still works, but the link caps its speed.
Space adds up too. Four of these drives give 102.4TB of raw space in just four bays.
U.3 is a drive connector standard that carries NVMe. Check that your server bay and backplane support U.3 NVMe drives before you install. Also confirm that the bay holds a 15 mm drive.
This drive suits databases, virtual machine hosts, analytics and busy storage servers that need big capacity and fast response. For light file serving or boot drives, a smaller read intensive drive is enough. Fewer, larger drives also mean fewer slots to fill and fewer parts to track.
