The SAS 9300-16i is a host bus adapter for a system that needs connections to a larger group of SAS or SATA drives. Its listed 16-port design makes it especially relevant when storage expansion has outgrown a motherboard's available drive connections. Treat it as an HBA rather than assuming it provides the hardware RAID functions of a dedicated RAID controller, and plan the matching drive cables before ordering.
