Each module has two ranks of x4 memory chips built from 8Gb parts. Two ranks give 32GB on one stick. The buffer chips on an LRDIMM hide that load from the processor, which is why a server can hold more of them. Eight sets of three fill all 24 slots of a DL380 Gen9 with 768GB.
