The HPE P23608-B21 is a 16TB SAS hard drive in a Low Profile carrier for HPE ProLiant servers. It is a full-size 3.5-inch drive that spins at 7200 RPM and links at 12Gb/s. HPE's spare number for it is P25245-001, and one of its model codes is MB016000JWZHE.
HPE sells this 16TB drive two ways. P23863-B21, with spare P25247-001, comes in the Smart Carrier. P23608-B21, this one, comes in the Low Profile carrier. The drive inside is the same. The carrier is not.
The Low Profile version is the one made for newer ProLiant models, including certain Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers. Older Gen8 to Gen10 bays use Smart Carriers. Check which carrier your server takes first.
HPE may supply this option from more than one drive maker, so the label can show different model codes. All six below map to P23608-B21:
The digits in MB016000 give the size in GB, which is 16,000. The drive is helium-filled, uses 512e sectors, and supports Instant Secure Erase. Business Critical is HPE's drive class name.
Not exactly. MB016000JWZHE is a model code. P23608-B21 is the option part number. HPE also lists that model code under the Smart Carrier option, P23863-B21, so the carrier decides which option you have.
LFF, which is 3.5-inch. SFF means 2.5-inch.
Instant Secure Erase wipes the drive in seconds before you retire it.
Many arrays allow it, but a RAID set counts every drive as the smallest one. Keep sizes matched inside one set.
HPE's parts data lists 5.23 W at idle and 6.69 W under a random load. Twelve drives idle near 63 W. Twelve bays hold 192TB raw, and RAID 6 leaves about 160TB usable.
