The Dell PRV6C is a 960GB solid state drive on a small M.2 stick. It uses an NVMe link at PCIe 4.0 speed with four lanes. It is a read intensive drive with TLC flash. Seller listings call it a BOSS-N1 drive.
M.2 sizes are written as width and length. The number 2280 means 22 mm wide and 80 mm long. Check that your boot card or slot takes that length before you swap. M.2 drives are small and sit flat on a card or board. They need no cable and no carrier.
Dell's BOSS cards hold small M.2 drives that run the operating system. That keeps the front bays free for data. Cards of this kind usually hold two drives in a mirror, so the server keeps booting if one drive fails.
Seller listings rate the drive at 1 drive write per day. On 960GB, that is 0.96TB of new data a day. An operating system, its logs and its updates write far less than that.
Seller listings name a Micron drive inside, with the model code MTFDKBA960TDZ. Dell puts its own part number, PRV6C, on the label. Use the Dell number when you look up a replacement.
One recertified seller lists 22 Dell systems. They include the R660, R760, R6615 and R7615. Check your own server's parts list, since a seller's list may not be complete.
After you fit a new boot drive, rebuild the mirror in the card's setup tool. Then confirm that the server starts from either drive.
