The Dell YTVTF is a 3.84TB SAS solid state drive for servers. It uses the SAS-4 link, which runs at 24Gb/s. It is a read intensive drive in the 2.5-inch size. Seller listings say Dell sells it with a Kioxia PM7-R drive inside.

Dell number and Kioxia number

Dell gives each drive its own part number, such as YTVTF. The maker has a model number too. Seller listings link YTVTF to Kioxia KPM7WRUG3T84. Knowing both helps when you match a spare to a drive in your server.

What the W stands for

Kioxia uses one letter in the model number to mark the security option. In Kioxia's model table, the W version is the self-encrypting drive that follows FIPS 140-3. Drives with other letters in that spot do not carry the same feature, so check the letters before you swap one drive for another.

Speed on SAS-4

Kioxia lists up to 22.5 Gbit/s on the link for the PM7-R line. It rates the family at up to about 4,200 MB/s for sequential reads and 720,000 random reads per second. The line comes in single port and dual port forms. Dual port lets two controllers reach the same drive.

Kioxia rates the PM7-R at 1 drive write per day, even for random writes. On 3.84TB that is 3.84TB of new data each day. The drive uses 112-layer BiCS FLASH TLC and has power loss protection. It draws about 5 W when ready.
