The Cisco Desk Phone 9841 (DP-9841-L-K9) is an entry-level SIP desk phone. The L in the part number means First Light, Cisco's light color. The black version is DP-9841-K9. The screen is grayscale, and the phone has no built-in Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Platforms it works with

Cisco also lists BroadWorks as tested. One phone software, called PhoneOS, covers all of them. Some older Cisco Unified Communications Manager versions need a device pack.

Screen and keys

The 3.5-inch grayscale screen shows 384 x 160 pixels and has a backlight. Four line keys sit beside it. A four-way pad with a Select key moves through menus. The dial pad meets ADA rules. A top light and a front arc light show call, message and phone status. An Action button can be set for any task.

Ports

Two gigabit Ethernet ports link the phone and a computer. One USB-A port takes a USB headset or a Bluetooth headset dongle. It can also charge a mobile device when the phone runs on a wall outlet. A handset port and an Aux port for service logs complete the back.

Sound

AI noise removal cleans up the call. The phone supports Opus, G.722, G.729, iLBC and G.711. The full-duplex speaker masks dial tones for privacy.

Security and power

A TPM 2.0 chip and EAP-TLS support protect the phone. It takes PoE (Class 2), and Cisco's power adapter is optional. The 9841 version has an NFC tag for setup. The phone weighs about 2.1 lb, and a wall mount is an extra.

Two versions

Cisco's help pages say the 9841 comes in two versions, the 9841 with an NFC tag and the 9841NR without one. The NFC tag is only on the standard 9841.
