The Brother MFC-L8900CDW is a color laser machine that prints, copies, scans and faxes on letter, legal and A4 paper. It runs at up to 33 pages a minute in color or black, and two-sided work is automatic in every mode. Here is what each of the four jobs looks like.
Print quality reaches 2,400 x 600 dpi class. A 250-sheet tray that adjusts for letter or legal and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray hold 300 sheets. Brother's optional trays, the LT-330CL (three 250-sheet trays) or the LT-340CL (two 500-sheet trays), raise the total to 1,300 sheets. A 150-sheet bin catches the pages.
Copies run at up to 33 a minute, and copy quality reaches 1,200 x 600 dpi. The flatbed takes pages up to 8.5 x 14 inches.
A 70-sheet feeder scans both sides in one pass at up to 58 images a minute. Scan quality reaches 1,200 x 2,400 dpi. A 5-inch color touchscreen runs the menus.
Fax is built in, so the same machine sends and receives faxes. Brother says duplex works in every mode, and that includes fax.
The machine takes the Brother TN431, TN433 and TN436 cartridges. The TN436 super high yield size is rated at about 6,500 pages. The box holds starter toner, a DR-431CL drum unit, a BU330CL belt unit and a WT320CL waste toner box.
You get USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and NFC, plus a front USB port. An 800 MHz processor and 512 MB of memory run the jobs. Brother rates the duty cycle at up to 60,000 pages a month. The paper tray takes letter, legal, executive, A4, A5 and A6 sizes. Media types include plain, glossy, bond, recycled and colored paper, labels, letterhead and number 10 envelopes. Toner Save mode is built in.
